The Magna Carta (which means Great Charter in Latin) is celebrating its 800th anniversary this year. This historical document helped to lay the foundation of democracy around the world. With all the celebrations that took place this week for Canada Day and for the many celebrations taking place in the U.S. this weekend for Independence Day, many do not realize the significance and importance that the Magna Carta has had on both countries.
